Canal City Hakata is known as a “city within the city”, this is a huge shopping and entertainment complex in the middle of Fukuoka. It includes restaurants, shops, a theater, a game center, two hotels, and a canal. It is the largest private development in the history of Japan.

It can be difficult to navigate but don’t be afraid to wander around. The fifth floor is known as the “Ramen Stadium” because of its eight shops with noodle dishes from all across Japan. The local specialty, known as Hakata Ramen, can be found on this floor. At the center of the canal, there is a fountain that puts on a show every 30 minutes between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m.
