The most visited attraction in town is the Saarbrücken Castle. It was first mentioned in historical records in 999. That means that it is crazy old lol. This Renaissance-style castle was built on the original site in the 17th century.
After its complete destruction, it was again rebuilt in the 18th century. Several times through the years, it was badly damaged by fire. But, in 1989, a large restoration project worked to completely restore the castle to its original beauty.
The building is now used as the region’s administrative seat as well as a cultural center and event venue. Allow for a few hours of exploration in the complex and the baroque cellar vaults.
