Edgartown

The location and charm of this town easily make it a favorite. This little village is set on a harbor and has some of the best shops, restaurants, and views. Edgartown is an elegant and sophisticated village with beautiful streets filled with boutique shops and restaurants that serve some of the best food on the island.

It is also not uncommon to see a few celebrities that own homes in the area. My family and I personally saw Ted Danson and heard from a shop owner that Meg Ryan is also a frequent guest of the town.

Edgartown Lighthouse

You can’t leave without seeing the Edgartown Lighthouse that is still in operation. The original lighthouse had been built in 1828 but was replaced by a more modern version in 1938. To read more about it follow the link.

Old Whaling Church

Visit the Old Whaling Church and take a tour to learn more about the island’s history.

Edgartown Books

Check out Edgartown Books, a quaint little bookstore with an interesting staircase and great books about the island and the presidents that have lived or visited there. They also carry the latest books and authors found on the bestseller lists. 

Beaches

There are gorgeous beaches close to towns, such as Katama (South) Beach that also features the Edgartown Lighthouse and the Norton Point Beach.

These beaches generally have lifeguards on duty and are clean and family-friendly.

Foodie Stops

• A worthwhile stop is Black Sheep. We picked up cheese, charcuterie meats, a couple of sandwiches, cookies, and chips for a lovely picnic on Katama Beach.
• 19 Raw – They feature one of the best lobster rolls I have ever had
• Among the Flowers Café – a lovely little café that serves wonderful homemade dishes near the harbor, go early for breakfast, it gets very busy
• Scoops Ice Cream Shop – my favorite flavor was the cotton candy flavor that even had pieces of cotton candy in it
• Port Hunter – while the restaurant is somewhat loud, the food is incredible
