Marina Piccola / Small Marina

Marina Piccola / Small Marina Capri Italy

It is said that this is the place where Ulysses was seduced by the sirens (mermaids).

To get to Marina Piccola, you can take a bus from Piazzetta or walk along Via Roma to Due Golfi and then descend the stairs on Via Mulo. The walk is enjoyable and takes only about 15 minutes.

At the small square where buses stop, there’s a flight of stairs leading to a pebble beach and the Church of S. Andrea, built-in 1900. Descend the stairs to reach the “Scoglio delle Sirene” cliff, which was once home to the alluring sirens described in Homer’s Odyssey, according to scholars. These rocks divide Marina Piccola Bay into two marinas, Marina di Mulo and Marina di Pennauro, which were once used by the ancient Romans as small ports.

On both sides of the Scoglio delle Sirene, there are two stretches of public beach with a snack bar. Further ahead, numerous beach establishments with restaurants can be found. If you plan on spending the day at Marina Piccola, Capri it is best to arrive in the morning as the sun goes behind the hills and casts a shadow on the beach in the afternoon (around 5:00 p.m. in the summer). Marina Piccola is the warmest spot on the island, perfect for a winter dip as it is sheltered from the wind and faces south.
