Notre Dame du Sablon

Notre Dame Brussels

Notre Dame du Sablon was built in the 15th and 16th centuries and has elegant stained-glass windows and striking Gothic arches and architecture. If you happen to see the statue of St. Hubert, you should know that it was once stolen from the chapel and taken to Antwerp. It was later seized and returned in 1348.

Stories are told that a young female had a dream wherein the Virgin Mary requested she take her image to Brussels. So, the girl sailed to Brussels and gave a statue of Mary to the archer’s temple.

As a result of this story, the chapel became a place of pilgrimage and interest, having to be enlarged to accommodate the numerous new patrons.
