Rainbow Street

Rainbow Street (Skólavörðustígur)

Downtown Reykjavík’s main street is adorned with vibrant rainbow colors to celebrate the seventeenth Reykjavík Pride festival. The colorful display is a joyful way to show support for diversity.

The city of Reykjavík and Reykjavík Pride collaborated to create this beautiful display, known as Rainbow Street, which will brighten up the street for the entire six-day Reykjavík Pride celebration, continuing until September.

Reykjavík Pride is just one of the many fantastic festivals that contribute to making Reykjavík a lively and culturally rich city all year round. This festival has been significant since 1999, attracting up to 100,000 visitors from around the world. It’s not only one of the biggest events in Iceland, but also one of the world’s most exciting Pride celebrations. If you are visiting Reykjavik during this time, don’t miss Rainbow Street, also known as Skólavörðustígur.

Even if you are not in Iceland during the festival, there is a good chance you will still see the painted rainbow on the road, so make sure you add it as a stop. It is a beautiful demonstration of love and equality.

There are also a lot of cute shops and restaurants on this street to check out. One of my favorites is 101 Reykjavik Street Food, which offers all kinds of cuisines in one place.
