Ice Rink Hours: Monday to Friday from 11 a.m.

Of all markets in Zurich, this is my favorite! Over 100 bright red huts are set up in the square next to Lake Zurich and the Grand Opera House. It is also one of the largest markets in Zurich. Definitely check out the Fondue Chalet. It is like a village within a village.

This is a great market for shopping and eating with many different things to choose from. There is even an area for children to play and large tables to eat at.

The Designers Market area encompasses many local artists that can display their work and sell their homemade wares.

Dorfli Weinachtsdorf im Niederdorf Market (red huts)

Address: Niederdorfstrasse, 8001 Zurich

Hours: Mon to Sat from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. with the food stands open till 10 pm, Sunday 11 am-7 pm

This is Zurich’s oldest market and seems to be in its own world. Located in the Niederdorf quarter of the Old Town the multiple stalls line up on the Niederdorfstrasse and continue onto Hirschenplatz and Rosenhof. This is a must-stop if you are here during the holidays. This market is spread out over multiple streets so take your time to wander around.

The ambiance is super adorable with all kinds of pastel-colored buildings, cute storefronts, and even ski gondolas that have been transformed into fondue huts.

Multiple performances happen in the square including fire jugglers, llamas, magicians, and many others.

Christkindlimarkt Zurich Switzerland

Train Station – Christkindlimarkt

Address: Zurich Central Station, Hauptbahnhof Zürich, Haupthalle

Hours: Open Sunday to Wednesday 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Thursday to Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

In the main concourse of the Zurich Hauptbahnhof, the train station, over 150 stalls are set up. It is one of the largest Christmas markets in all of Europe to be held indoors. So if you are frozen and stiff from walking around outside all day this is a good place to warm up.

You cannot miss the 50-foot tree that is slathered in over 7,000 Swarovski crystal snowflakes.

Werdemühleplatz

Address: Tucked away in a little courtyard just off of Bahnhofstrasse

Hours: Mon to Thurs 4 pm-9 pm, Friday 4 pm-10 pm, Saturday 1 pm-10 pm, Sunday 1 pm-9 pm

This is one of Zurich’s most beloved Christmas markets in Zurich with beautiful star lights hanging from the trees. You will also find the traditional Singing Christmas Tree, This custom has been happening since 1998 and has hosted choirs from around Switzerland. The stage is even shaped in a Christmas tree adding to the holiday atmosphere.

Rustic wooden chalets are set up in the area with Christmas lights strung around creating a delightful atmosphere. Food stalls and glühwein huts can be found but the focus of this market is more on shopping.

NOTE: It gets really crowded here in the evenings, so arrive early if you want to shop without people all up in your space.
